Short: THE flexible Cellular Automaton Author: thomas.richter@alumni-tu.berlin.de (Thomas Richter) Uploader: thomas richter alumni-tu berlin de (Thomas Richter) Type: gfx/misc Version: 1.64 Replaces: VEUpdate.lha Requires: OS 2.0 for most and OS 3.0 for all functions, 1MB chip, 2MB fast Architecture: m68k-amigaos >= 2.0.4 _____________________________________________________________________________ This is the full version of VideoEasel, previously only available through payment. In addition to the previously available free version, it also includes: - The full VideoEasel guide, coming with a huge number of experiments to perform, about 450K. - More brushes and more pictures. - More ARexx scripts, for example to convert a VideoEasel animation into an IFF-ANIM movie. - The XLIFE source files which are no longer included in this edition to keep the archive small. - Display drivers for Picasso96 and CyberGraphics that are up to five times faster than the native display drivers included in this package. This demo release will only work on native Amiga screen modes, the RTG support files are included in the full edition. _____________________________________________________________________________ About VideoEasel: A fast and flexible, program-able and expandable cellular automata machine, including Conway's LIFE plus over 70 (SEVENTY!) other applications of cellular automata, ready to use and collected from various sources (Scientific American alias Spektrum der Wissenschaft, Cellular Automata Machines by Toffoli & Margolus and other..). The program is extremly flexible, own algorithms can be written in CAMRexx or - even better - in (preferably) Assembler or C. A full guide is included. _____________________________________________________________________________ New in release 1.64: This is a minor bugfix release. The "swap planes" function swapped all planes, just not those used by the automaton, resulting in unreliable results on RTG screen modes. This essentially broke the "time tunnel" experiment on graphics card modes. _____________________________________________________________________________ New in release 1.63: Not much. This is just releasing the 1.63 version which was available by payment. No technical changes, but lots and lots of new material not available previously. _____________________________________________________________________________ New in release 1.62.1: Fixed bugs in the native video drivers. I recommend buying the much faster (!) P96 and CGFx drivers for VideoEasel. _____________________________________________________________________________ New in release 1.62: - Fixed the printer setup window which printed with the wrong dimensions from time to time. - Worked a lot on the datatypes-based import-filter. DUE TO A BUG IN THE OS 3.5 picture.datatype, IMPORT OF PICTURES WILL NOT WORK CORRECTLY WITH THE V44 DATATYPE. PLEASE USE THE V43 EDITION FROM THE P96 DISTRIBUTION INSTEAD. FOR OPTIMAL QUALITY, IT IS RECOMMENDED TO SET THE DATATYPES TO V40 (NOT V43!) MODE TEMPORARELY. _____________________________________________________________________________ New in release 1.60: - A lot! - Added RTG support, wrote fast display drivers for Picasso96 and CyberGraphics. - Changed the Environment handling of VideoEasel, it selects now the proper video driver automatically. - Changed the screen mode request code. - Speed up the magnify tool if enough memory is available. _____________________________________________________________________________ New in release 1.55: - Fixed a bug in the IFF saver which could crash if the display lines are too long. - Made more preparations for RTG, even though this release does not support RTG yet. New in release 1.54: - Fixed a stupid enforcer hit when scrolling in the "Planar Tiled" environment. New in release 1.53: - Updated printer support. The colormap of the screen is no longer touched. - The brush wasn't shown after a single step command. - The mirror/magnifier/raster tools are now deactivated as soon as a new screen mode is selected. New in release 1.52: -Fixed a fix of 1.51.... )-: -The 1.51 crashed when closing a window due to a forgotten bracket in the C source... New in release 1.51: -Fixed a bug in the window cleanup routine that might have caused crashes when rebuilding the window. -Fixed an enforcer hit in the ARexx menu support functions New in release 1.50: -Fixed a bug in printing -The drawing functions should be now CyberGfx compatible (I hope...) but no CGFX driver is included, though. (Left for the next upgrade) -Fixed several handling "features" of the magnify tool -Added an "Import" function (works with Datatypes and requires 3.0) _____________________________________________________________________________ New in release 1.41: - Fixed a bug in the mirror routines. New in release 1.40: - Updated the GUI generation code a bit, shouldn't make any visual difference. _____________________________________________________________________________ Have fun, Thomas (July 2020)
