Short: Converts MPEG Audio to IFF-8SVX Author: Timo Savola (thain@netlife.fi) Uploader: Timo Savola (thain netlife fi) Type: mus/misc Requires: util/libs/mpega_library.lha Architecture: m68k-amigaos Forrest Amp 1.0 An utility to convert MPEG Audio files to IFF-8SVX ones. Works with FTPMount. Uses mpega.library by Stéphane Tavenard. Freeware. I wrote Forrest Amp because I've got a slow CPU and IDE harddrive; I can't listen to MP3's with good quality in real time and IDE hd consumes too much CPU when listening to big (16-bit) AIFF samples. Before I had to download MP3, convert MP3 to AIFF and convert AIFF to 8SVX. Now I can convert MP3 to 8SVX while downloading. Forrest is a bit restricted, since I wrote it for my own use (and this is the first version). It outputs only Mono samples, and the decoding quality is always High. However, you can specify the frequency divide value (default is 2) and the input buffer size (default is 2048 bytes - for my slow modem). You can hope for a better release, but don't hold your breath. Tell me if it crashes your Workbench, and don't set the input buffer size to 2MB. :) Requires mpega.library, 68020+, a decent AmigaOS and some memory. Nevertheless it's called Forrest AMP, it is not a player. The name was just so catchy...
