Short: quickstarter for GNU Emacs 18.58 port 1.25DG Author: jskov@iesd.auc.dk Uploader: jskov iesd auc dk Type: util/edit Version: 1.1 Architecture: m68k-amigaos This is a little hack which improve the usability of GNU Emacs 18.58 for the Amiga. Excerpts from the documentation: ** Introduction ** If you use Emacs on a regular basis, you may be fed up with waiting for Emacs to get loaded. A quick way around this is to iconify Emacs when it is not used, but then you have to un-iconify and load all new documents by hand. What I wanted was a "quick starter" for Emacs so that it could be called from other applications as well (DOpus, Heddley, etc.), and here is the result, available for all Emacs users. ** Result ** The resulting quick starter is an AREXX script, utilizing a small CLI command. Now how do you use it? Read below: Where you previously executed the script 'Emacs' you now have to execute the AREXX script 'emacs_quickstarter.rexx'. This is done with the following command: "rx emacs_quickstarter.rexx " Now, the Emacs Quick Starter (EQS) will see if you already have an Emacs session running when it is called. If it finds a running Emacs in the system, Emacs will be popped to front and the file you specified will be loaded. If EQS did not find a running Emacs, an Emacs session will be started with the file you specified. If you choose not to specify a file, Emacs will either be popped to front (if already loaded) or start an empty session. ** Copyright ** The Emacs QuickStarter script, EmacsPatcher and WindowPopper are all Copyright © 1994 Jesper Skov. All programs are freely distributable, but if you use this package I ask you to send me a postcard depicting something from your home city/country (whatever), with a short description of yourself (who you are, what you do etc. And not only Amiga specific stuff!). Call this postcardware (NOT PCWare! :) if you like.
