Short: LZX for diskdevices, v1.23 Author: Dirk Vael Uploader: dirk vael arthurandersen com (Dirk Vael) Type: util/arc Architecture: m68k-amigaos Very minor upgrade, with new PackDev version and other fixes. Plus revised docs and stuff.(this upload includes the required Packdev doc) DiskSqueeze is a combination of several tools that combine the power of the LZX compression algorithm with the flexibility of the PackDev disk-imager. All necessary software is present in this archive, except the LZX program (see Aminet: util/arc). Those not interested in another disk-compression program as such, might take a look at the very useful utilities included here. Features: - DMS-archives (any version) transparantly handled - DMS-archives can be automatically converted to DiskSqueeze-archives - no memory (or disk) required to handle DMS-archives - buggy DMS executable not needed to handle DMS-archives - DiskSqueeze-archive TEST option - File_ID.DIZ option - using assembler-tools for extra speed (thanks Jorma!) - ALWAYS better compression ratio (3% upto 35%) than DMS or any XPK - faster compression for registered LZX users (upto 30%) - Amiga, Macintosh and M$-Dos disks supported (see below) - DSQ-archives include filelist (for valid filesystem devices) - fully multitasking + OS compliant (no alien libraries required) - easy, mouse-driven ASL user-interface - smart memory-usage monitoring + full error-handling - extensive (and interesting!) AmigaGuide documentation - flexible installing (using the 'Installer'-tool) - nice MagicWB icons :-) - *free* registering for help/updates/tools/gossip/... Devices supported: - trackdisk.device + clones (mfm.-, diskspare.-, floppy.device) - ramdrive .device + clones (statram.-, (asdg.)vdisk.device) - fmsdisk .device (any version) MINIMUM configuration (ZZzzz...) - OS 2.04 - M68000 - 1 MB RAM - LZX v1.20e RECOMMENDED configuration: - OS 3.x - M68020+ - 2 MB RAM (4 MB is optimal) - a harddisk (at least 1 MEG free for temporary storage) (but you can forget the harddisk if you got enough RAM) - LZX v1.21r (only for faster compression) PS: Big hello to the Fortress guys.
