Soko : Here is a question for discusion, Tutor Tech, Hyperscreen & Hyperstudio can all AFC Tooter: can't answer for all. I am. MIDGEF : I'll read that part carefully. It's exciting knowing a celebrity AFL Gayle : I'm a school library media specialist, Davkir, which means I'm a teacher, yes. Soko : drive a video pverlay card & laser disk player... canNexus? AFA Bard : Welcome to AED, Mark! AFL Gayle : LOL, Midge! :) MIDGEF : I am a computer resource consultant RagenT : I'm teaching until the 29th and then I'm a unemployed teacher. AFA Bard : Leonard!!! GREAT to see ya!! :) Davkir : May I ask all you teachers a question? AFL Gayle : I don't think so, Soko. You use Nexus by linking text and graphics documentsthat already exist. (Still looking in the manual, though.) Soko : Thanks Gayle.... Davkir : I am about half finished a HS stack on AIDS. I am a physician but have done other software through Sunburst..this is my first solo shot..Having some questions on how to make it more interesting than MIDGEF : I think I have a HyperCard stack on AIDSMy husband sells AZT Davkir : an eclectronic version of a book. Davkir : MID- Really -stack onb AIDS? AFL Gayle : What programs from Sunburst have you done, Davkir? MIDGEF : I got it a while ago so it's not up to date Davkir : The Smoking Decision and Make it Click - Seatbrelt Safetly Seatbelt Safety AFA Bard : Why not use the testing features of HS, Davkir? Or.. try some anti-body animation. :) MIDGEF : but I can share it with you if you have access to a Mac Soko : Davkir, somebody in the public heath area did a laser disk on aids, that Davkir : don't, darnnit JohnWTAU : Are there any Tutor-Tech stacks on AO and does Tutor-Tech have a runtime? Soko : was for MS-DOS, no a bad disk, ffront end the HS stack to a disk likr that... AFL Gayle : John, yes, there are stacks. MIDGEF : Yes...my stacks and Ragen are on AO AFL Gayle : In Direct Connect, Tutor Tech has a section. The demo for Tutor Tech is in that area. The demo will run ANY of the stacks that are in the Tutor Tech library. JohnWTAU : Where are they? Davkir : SOKO - was there live video on it? Soko : The AIDS disk was given free to several schools ion my area about 4 yrs ago AFL Gayle : The only thing you canNOT do with the Tutor Tech demo is save your own stacksthat you create, but you CAN look at the ones there. Soko : Yes Dav, it was video clips of doctors & patients talking about the symptoms et AFL Gayle : John, from the AED Menu, you will see Direct Connect. Select that. Then select Davkir : was it interactive? AFL Gayle : Tutor Tech. The first selection there will be the Tutor Tech Message Board. The second has the libraries. JohnWTAU : What is the general opinion of Tutor-Tech? MIDGEF : I own HyperCard, HyperStudio and Tutor Tech Soko : Dav it was not, but with a stack to select through it it could be great RagenT : I like it. It's easy. AFA Bard : I like TT because it's bootable in our older IIe's. :) MIDGEF : I can only use Tutor Tech with kids Soko : I did my first trial stack w/ TT on Genital Warts Davkir : That's what I'm working on..no video yet, but will be thenext step. AFC Tooter: Same. No GS's at home or school. MIDGEF : because we don't have IIGS or Mac Soko : from that disk AFL Gayle : Tutor Tech requires only 128K so you can use it on most of your old //e's. Davkir : Do you teachers ever teach health on computers?? MIDGEF : The manual is the BEST I've ever read AFL Gayle : Also, Tutor Tech has a VERY liberal site license with it. Online support here is excellent. (The programmer himself is the support person.) AFA Bard : HyperStudio also has online support. :) Hiya Marty!! Welcome! AFL Marty : hi Davkir : Hi Marty!!! AFL Gayle : Some of my health teachers use computer programs, Davkir. MIDGEF : Davkir Email me if you want the AIDS HyperCard stack RagenT : Tutor tech also has a grader program, which I am just learning. Davkir : I will Midgef..thanks JohnWTAU : Seems like Tutor-Tech is a sleeper then... Why? Not well known for 5yrs old. MIDGEF : I like the easy way that Tutor Tech links it's stacks together Davkir : Excuse me...gotta run...thanks all!! AFA Bard : Thanks for coming DAVKIR! RagenT : The problem with the hardware in our schools is that it's old and there is MIDGEF : and I can use a lot of graphics I already have with it RagenT : no way to upgrade swo we have to use software that is compatible. Laser disks and videos are to out of bounds for us. MIDGEF : I have a phobia about HyperStudio I can't seem to get into it AFL Gayle : What's the problem, Midge? MIDGEF : I am hoping someone writes a good text on it. JohnWTAU : I just had my firks look at the TT demo.. Looks great to me... MIDGEF : I hate the manual AFL Gayle : In response to the question earlier about Nexus, I've looked through the whole Soko : Really Ragen? The bottom line price for a laser disk player is not much more AFL Marty : The best way to do a HyperStudio stack is to just do it. AFL Gayle : manual. Nothing at all mentioned about supporting vcr or laser disks. Soko : than a VCR and some disks are 300-7-- dollars? MIDGEF : John: Download our stacks and check them out Soko : $300-700 AFA Bard : Right, Marty. Experimentation is certainly the way! RagenT : We can't even buy a chalkless blackboard for $25! AFL Marty : Once you've spent 4-6 hours making some stacks you'll have learned it fairly well. MIDGEF : I loved your stacks Marty AFL Marty : Nexus doesn't support either of those Gayle. AFL Gayle : Thanks, Marty. :) I thought so. MIDGEF : As soon as my workshops are done I'll be playing more with HS and HC AFL Marty : Just got that program myself about a week ago. MIDGEF : I doubt if I buy HyperCard GS (can't face more memory) RagenT : I haven't worked with the HS or HC because of hardware. I did write a stack in Tutortech with kids interaction in mind. AFL Marty : If you want to see some stacks that are very nicely done, check out those uploaded by Andy RW. MIDGEF : Ragen learns fast..she could read Goodman's book in 5 days!!!!! AFL Marty : He has some very nice special effects in them. RagenT : What subject matter? MIDGEF : HyperCard 600 pages AFL Marty : He has one that will help you write an essay or term paper. AFA Bard : Welcome TTEAMW're just discussion Hypermedia! :) AFL Marty : Another one is intended as a program launcher. JohnWTAU : Are the stacks by Andy RW for HS? AFL Marty : Yes, they are. MIDGEF : Is Scholastic's HyperScreen any good? AFL Gayle : I haven't seen it yet, Midge. Have it on order. Wiggy gave it a good review in Nibble. AFA Bard : A good entry-level program, Midge. Missing some of the really powerful things, though. (Like XCMDS) Soko : Hyperscreen is like all other Scholastic programs , great manual, best section AFA Bard : [[[ Gerry! ]]] Glad you made it! :) AFL Gayle : Bard, does HyperScreen have a runtime demo like Slide Shop does, so that those TTEAM : Hi everyone. Just obtained Mac SE with Hypercard for grade 2. Any suggestions? AFL Gayle : of us who don't have it yet could see what it looks like? GerryR5 : Hi!!! :) Soko : on how to connect Video Overlay & Laser Disk, but limited to scholastic MIDGEF : Hi Gerry (never got that pen pal off the ground) Soko : graphics packages AFA Bard : Yes, they do. Call SCHOLASTIC to find out more... 1-800-541-5513! :) AFC Tooter: Gerry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!you're back! GerryR5 : That's ok, Midge....we can do it later in the year...its been a bit hectic at MIDGEF : You'll miss the color on a Mac SE for second grade GerryR5 : home too>>:) Soko : Gayle .... Yes you make a run time disk to use on Hyperscreen AFL Gayle : No, TooT. She's here while still on vacation. :) GerryR5 : Nope..still in DC..;) GerryR5 : Ah, Gayle..the word is working..;) AFL Gayle : So, my question is, Soko and Bard, is it something that could be uploaded here to the libraries? AFC Tooter: Gerry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!you're not back! MIDGEF : I have a HyperCard stack on Sign Language and Dinosaurs that the second grade AFA Bard : Yes, with Scholastic's permission! Soko : People should be aware that Hyperscreen is now in Version 2.0 and the upgrade MIDGEF : liked AFA Bard : Midge.. UPLOAD IT!!! Soko : to registered users of the older version is free TTEAM : That would be great. Hearing impaired class is next door!! MIDGEF : I can't I'm on a GS MIDGEF : But I could send them to someone who can MIDGEF : They are public domain I think (one is made by Apple) Soko : Gayle they do include a demo disk in the package....couldn't hurt to ask them AFL Gayle : OK. Thanks, Soko. MIDGEF : Thanks for the compliment IES!!!! You made my day! (She likes my Tutor Tech) Soko : And really folks I learned so much about Laser Disk players and how they work Soko : from the Hyperscreen manual MIDGEF : Get bumped Ragen??? RagenT : Yup! Teens! MIDGEF : I'm working with SuperStory Tree which is a hypermedia type program Soko : Has anyone been successful in getting Hyperstudio to work with a video overlay AFL Gayle : Right. Thanks for reminding us of that one, Midge. How is it? MIDGEF : Scholastic prgrams have improved a lot Soko : card and lasr disk player? I can get the program to control the player but can' AFL Gayle : (Not wealthy enough to own a VOC card, Soko.) Has anyone else tried? MIDGEF : SST is fun and not too hard. The manual is long but good Soko : can't get the image overlayed on the GS screen? AFL Marty : Same story here Gayle. Can't afford VOC. AFL Gayle : Soko, post your question in Roger Wagner's message board in Direct Connect. MIDGEF : It only need 128K and can use just the keyboard MIDGEF : The stories can be put on a disk and can run alone AFL Gayle : Great, Midge. Does it have a demo that doesn't require the program? Soko : You guys need to learn how to write grants better.... thats where I got mine AFL Gayle : Thanks. You just answered my question. :) MIDGEF : so kids could take them home (without the program) and read them to Mom and Dad AFL Gayle : (No time to write grants, Soko!) RagenT : Wth Tutor-tech you need input device to create but not to run. MIDGEF : There is a tutorial but no read run time disk Soko : Gayle....I've been through the question w/ RWP no help..... AFL Gayle : Have you or your students made any yet that you could upload, Midge? MIDGEF : read=real AFL Gayle : Yes, Soko, but if you post it on the message board, you'll be reaching lots of users, not just Roger. Doesn't matter who the students are, Midge. :) RagenT : Do you want me to try it with club kids? Soko : Sounds good I'll try it MIDGEF : I seldom teach something that I haven't used in the classroom RagenT : Midge? MIDGEF : Yes? RagenT : \ MIDGEF : Well, maybe if you can get Gail to buy it RagenT : (\) 2-year old input.. Soko : I taught HS, TT, and Hyperscreen to 20 teacher this summer, it wasthe most fun MIDGEF : Ragen's baby is computer literate AFC Tooter: A slow gnode I suspect. Soko : I have had teaching in years, they had a homework assignment to create stacks so when we get together in two weeks i will upload what stuff they will allow! MIDGEF : Oooh...homework for teachers...they never read the directions... AFA Bard : A gnode, Tooter? :)) LOL! AFL Marty : amen Midge RagenT : Do the teachers still use it? AFA Bard : Great, SOKO.. that'll be terrific! Did they have a preference for HS, TT or HyperScreen? Soko : I will find out on 10/27/90 AFL Gayle : Great, Soko! :) MIDGEF : I'm teaching (really demonstrating) Tutor Tech in December Soko : I have a +/- file from newsprint that got typed up on MS-DOS that I have not MIDGEF : I knew that Mark Soko : transfered to upload but I will have to before the 27th I will upload then MIDGEF : I was looking at my notebbok while I typed ! I can't take notes and read and type all at once Soko : Bard they seem most turned on by Hyperstudio however MIDGEF : I need an assistant!!! AFC Tooter: Any idea why, SOKO? RagenT : I'm available... MIDGEF : Did Ragen tell you that I'm doing a beta for Delta Drawing Today? Soko : They liked the ease of button creation the SOUND and the better art work that Soko : could be done AFL Gayle : No, Midge. How is the new version? MIDGEF : I'm going to make a Tutor Tech stack out of the best graphics the kids make IES Coord : Ok Midge. ;) RagenT : Oh neat! AFL Marty : I have a TT question... is TT done in single or double hires? AFL Gayle : Great idea, Midge! :) MIDGEF : Delta Drawing is much better than the old Double Hires but imports HR AFA Bard : BTW... Roger Wagner has a GREAT demo kit that they'll send you if you're doing a demo. It's got some MIDGEF : I find that out by using my Fingerprint card to caapture screeens AFL Marty : Thanks. (Haven't used that program in a long time) Soko : Marty, all TT art, is done to support the colors used in the IIe world so AFA Bard : GREAT samples and really puts HS through it's paces! Soko : stacks can always be run there MIDGEF : I've been converting my Print shop graphics (GS) to work with TT AFL Gayle : Great! Have you uploaded those to Marty's and Scott's Clip Art Library, Midge? MIDGEF : Did I miss the secret word AFL Gayle : Hasn't been announced yet, Midge. :) RagenT : LOL MIDGEF : Not yet because all I've done is computer related ones for my stack AFA Bard : R.Wagner: 619-442-0524; TT (Techware) 407-695-9000; Scholastic 800-541-5513. Will the new Mac that can MIDGEF : I'm thinking of writing how I did it and uploading that Soko : run Apple II stuff be any good? AFL Marty : Personally I think it stinks. MIDGEF : Yes, but I convert PI graphics to Hires first AFL Gayle : Great idea, Midge. That article would really be helpful. AFA Bard : <-- will be at announcement session. They're really gonna have to CONVINCE me that it's better AFL Marty : Can't TT import Double hires graphics? AFA Bard : thank my GS! :) MIDGEF : I got an invitation from my computer store to go see them GerryR5 : I am going to go downtown to see the new Macs tomorrow.. Soko : Why not some Mac LC's (laser disks, laser printers) along with GS's? RagenT : No but it sounds interesting... AFA Bard : MAC, right now, Gayle. GS SCSI coming soon. BCS Frank : there's no tech reason it couldn't be done with AII or MAC technology. AFL Gayle : Can't comment on something I haven't seen yet, Soko. :) The laser printers, however, are a great idea. AFA Bard : Oops.. I mean SOFTWARE for DISCIS is now only MAC.. not SCSI! :) Soko : Would you go with a couple of Mac SE's AFL Marty : Why not some IBM clones? BCS Frank : Of course the problem is still good writing, one language or three. AFA Bard : Marty!! Bite your... tongue!
