7/14/91 8:05:34 PM Opening "log7.14" for Chat Log recording. AFL Gayle : Hi, Phyllis! :) AFA Bard : Welcome, Phyllis! PhyllisP : hello AFA Bard : Everyone "hyper" about our topic tonight? AFL Gayle : Groan, Bard. AFA Bard : Good luck! AFL Gayle : OK, Mary. Open floor. What do you want to talk about regarding HyperMedia? :) MaryEz : Define HyperMedia, please;) AFA Bard : Yup.. OK Mary.. the floor is yours! AFA Bard : According to John Sculley.. "hypermedia is the delivery of information in forms that go beyond AFL Gayle : Gee, she asks the tough questions, Bard. :) AFA Bard : traditional list and database report methods" (Sculley, 1987, xvii) :)) AFL Gayle : Great, Bard! :)) MaryEz : Must all use of hypermedia be interactive to be hypermedia? Or can any interaction between several MaryEz : different pieces of hardware be considered hypermedia? AFL Gayle : I think the latter is also hypermedia, Mary. MaryEz : Is hypermedia always computer controlled? AFA Bard : Hmmm.. a good question. I guess it's a personal thing. I like to think of hypermedia as AFA Bard : USER controlled, not computer controlled. :) AFL Gayle : For example, you could have a stack that was informational, and it wouldn't have AFL Gayle : to be interactive. AFL Gayle : Good point, Bard. :) AFL Gayle : What do YOU think, Mary? AFA Bard : If you think of "hypersonic" - that means, literally, exceeding beyond the bounds of sound... AFA Bard : applied to "media" - I guess just about anything that goes beyond what we "traditionally" think of MaryEz : I know that, Bard;) Computers are always user controlled. Either by me or by kids. In my opinion, MaryEz : that is. AFA Bard : as media is "hypermedia"? AFL Gayle : Also a good point, Mary. :) At least we all agree on that. :) AFL Gayle : So did you two see any exciting hypermedia applications at NECC? Anything new? MaryEz : We are doing hypermedia without using stacks, I believe. In other words, when we make videos using AFL Gayle : Hi, Prize! Have you figured out how to work your LC yet? [] MaryEz : camera, computer, laser disc player, audio input etc. that is multimedia, I guess rather than hyper- MaryEz : media??? AFL Gayle : Hmmmm... I would think so, Mary. Teacher jn : *Australian* NO NOT REALLY! Ho w are we all tonight ? :)) AFA Bard : We' all are fine, Prize. Great to see you! MaryEz : To answer your question, Gayle, I thought the presentation by the St. Louis Zoo group was the Teacher jn : What a timely discussion I've just revamp the Davidson IC section w/ all their progs. dealing MaryEz : best as far as being useful to teachers. Teacher jn : with Adult Literacy & Technology!:)) AFL Gayle : Tell me more about it, please, Mary. :) MaryEz : They have a project where a teacher can sit down at a computer and using their hypermedia software AFL Gayle : Great, Prize. :) MaryEz : create a video about a particular subject such as Endangered species just by pointing and clicking AFL Gayle : Wow! That IS neat, Mary. What computer does it run on? MaryEz : The user can choose video clips, lesson plans, worksheets etc. and the entire lesson will be MaryEz : printed out and the video will be created also. All the teacher has to bring is a blank tape. But MaryEz : you have to teach in St Louis to use it at this point. AFA Bard : Lots of the videodisc based packages, like GTV, MLK and others, have a "documentary maker" feature. AFA Bard : What's the name of the package? Is it done by a college or just the zoo? MaryEz : I can't remember at the moment. It's a private company with backing. I'll see if I can find the info AFA Bard : Gayle.. can you talk a bit about places online to get hypermedia information? AFL Gayle : In Direct Connect, we have Roger Wagner's DC, which supports HyperStudio. AFL Gayle : In the same area, you will find Tutor Tech, supported by Dave Lampert. AFL Gayle : For specific questions, R. Wagner's DC is also in AGR (Graphics), APR, AFL Gayle : (productivity), and AMS (Music and Sound.) AFA Bard : Welcome CPS1! AFL Gayle : We share the Tutor Tech forum with APR and AGR. AFL Gayle : We have a LARGE library of HS stacks that grows all of the time in Roger CPS1 : Thanks-This is my first visit. AFL Gayle : Wagner's area. Tutor Tech also has some stacks for it. Teacher jn : R. W.'s DC ?? What's a DC ?? AFL Gayle : Also, in the Teachers' Tools Library here in AED, you can find a demo of AFL Gayle : Nexus. AFL Gayle : DC=Direct Connect MaryEz : I took Roger Wagner's HyperStudio all day seminar at Phoenix so now I feel more confident about using MaryEz : it. AFL Gayle : In the R. Wagner DC and the Tutor Tech DC, you can find demos of those AFL Gayle : programs. MaryEz : He is also developing a stack that will interact with the Legos. AFA Bard : And.. our Stackware Forum -accessible from AED or APR. For Mac-minded folks - MED and the Mac Hyper- AFL Gayle : He who, Mary? Roger? MaryEz : Yes AFA Bard : Card forum (MHC) is great.. AFA DonB : Hi All! AFL Gayle : HyperMedia Teacher jn : Have any of ya all, ever dealt w/ Earthquest?? AFL Gayle : What is it, Prize? AFL Gayle : Who makes that program, Prize? AFL Gayle : Thanks, Mary. :) MaryEz : That was just one of many but it looked good to me for the barely computer literate teacher. Teacher jn : Earthquest is carried by Davidson it's made by another Company ... whose name is - Teacher jn : Earthquest Inc. (believe it or not!) Palo Alto CA!
